This album is music based on Meng's theatre production 'To Live' which I composed and recorded in Aug. 2012. The Play was based on Yu Hua's most famous novel 'To Live' published in 1993 ( traditional Chinese: 活著 Huózhe)

This is 2023 new mixing.

Yu Hua's 'To Live' describes the struggles endured by the son of a wealthy landowner after the Revolution fundamentally alters the nature of Chinese society. The contrast between his pre-revolutionary status as a selfish fool who (literally) travels on the shoulders of the downtrodden and his post-revolutionary status as a persecuted peasant is stark.
